Airport Lounge Access Calculator: Is It Worth the Fee?

Decide with your own numbers. Enter the fee, the credits you would use anyway, how often you visit and with guests, and what one person-visit is worth to you. You get net value, cost per person-visit, break-even visits, and whether holding the membership or paying per visit is cheaper. The starting numbers are placeholders, not typical figures.

Net value is -$250.00. At these numbers the visits are worth less than the membership costs.

Cost per person-visit is $66.67. That is the yearly membership cost divided by your person-visits.

Break-even is about 16 member visits per year (so 16 visits would cover the cost at these values).

Paying each time is cheaper by $160.00 than holding the membership at these numbers. The two routes meet at about 10 visits (so 10 visits makes them cross).

What this does not count

  • Lounge crowding and capacity limits: a lounge can turn you away or have a wait.
  • Rules that change: eligibility, guest rules and which lounges are included are set by each provider and can change. Check the current terms before you rely on access.
  • Time spent getting to and sitting in the lounge.
  • Other benefits of the same card or membership besides lounge access.
  • Taxes on any credits or benefits.
  • The cost of the trip itself (flights, hotels). This is only the lounge part of the decision.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tell if lounge access is worth the annual fee?

Compare what you would actually pay for the membership in a year, after subtracting only those credits you would use anyway, with what the visits are worth to you. Enter your expected visits, guests, and the value you place on one person-visit; the calculator shows net value and the number of visits at which value covers cost. What counts as worth it is your own judgement about food, drink, wifi and comfort.

Should I count statement credits against the fee?

Only count credits you would genuinely use even if there were no lounge benefit. If you would not have bought the item otherwise, counting the credit can make the fee look smaller than it really is for you. The calculator subtracts the credits figure you enter from the annual fee, floored at zero, so enter only the portion you truly value.

Should I count guests?

Yes, if you regularly bring guests and the program charges per guest or includes them. The calculator multiplies your visits by guests per visit to get person-visits, adds guest fees to the membership cost, and values each person-visit at the value you enter. If you rarely bring guests, leave guests per visit at 0.

What should I put as the value of one person-visit?

Use what you would otherwise spend or what the comfort is worth to you for that visit, in dollars. Some people estimate the food and drink they would have bought in the terminal, plus wifi or a quiet space. Others use a lower figure. There is no standard value, which is why this input is yours to set.

Why do lounge rules and access change?

Which lounges are included, who is eligible, guest allowances, capacity limits and per-visit fees are set by each lounge provider and card issuer and can change during the year. Lounges can also restrict entry when crowded. Check the current terms for the specific program you are considering before deciding.
